Periodontal Surgery

Depending on the condition of your gums and your current stage of gum disease, our dentists may suggest surgery to address the problem. Our dentists can see you for an examination to see if periodontal surgery is right for you or if another treatment will be better for your smile. To schedule your consultation with our team, call Beyond Dental Health.

If you have a more advanced stage of periodontal disease, your teeth, gum tissue, and supporting bone structure will be negatively impacted. Your teeth may also become loose or uncomfortable as a result, making gum surgery necessary.

Depending on the stage of the disease and your individual needs, there are several types of gum surgery that may be recommended.

These include:

  • Gingival flap surgery (pocket reduction) — By separating the gum tissue and conducting a thorough cleaning before reattaching the tissue, your dentist will effectively reduce your periodontal pockets.
  • Gingivectomy — This procedure is performed to remove excess gum tissue that is covering the teeth. This will provide a better area to clean the teeth.
  • Gingivoplasty — This form of surgery is used to reshape the healthy gum tissue around the teeth in order to  give you a healthier and more attractive appearance. Crown lengthening and gum grafting are two forms of gingivoplasty.

Our dental team and office will provide you with detailed post-surgery instructions, including how to properly clean the treated area.
