Preventative Dentistry

Preventative dentistry is the overarching theme of all forms of dental care that are created to help you avoid developing serious complications in your oral health later in life. Preventative treatments are designed to keep your mouth happy and healthy so that you can keep your natural teeth and smile, without the need for extensive care. The more effort you put in now for your mouth, gums, and teeth, the less you have to worry about them in the future, allowing your natural smile to stay looking great.

This type of dentistry aids you in not only avoiding future dental issues and helping in protection, but also to diagnose conditions like oral cancer at early stages and treat them fast. The faster conditions like these are found, the more chances for a full recovery and better health.

Preventive dentistry includes but is not limited to:

  • Home care like brushing and flossing
  • Dental sealants and fluoride treatments
  • Regular professional cleanings and exams
  • Diet and habit review to address any that may be affecting oral health
  • Recommending oral health products or hygiene products / aids for use

We suggest that you visit our office every six months or so to provide regular preventative care. These routine appointments ensure that our dentists monitor your child's oral health and make sure they receive any treatments that they may need.

Dental Cleanings

Two of the most common and basic procedures, yet most important, are dental cleanings and exams. These processes provide professional cleanings which prevent gum disease and maintain a great looking smile.

During a cleaning and exam, our skilled dentists will:

  • Clean plaque or tartar off your teeth, preventing decay or periodontitis
  • Polish and floss your teeth
  • Examine teeth for signs of diseases or damaging dental conditions

In these appointments, we may utilize dental x-rays to adequately evaluate your smile and make sure you receive the dental aid you need. To maintain good oral health, these dental cleanings and exams should be made to be regular recurring appointments to prevent and treat complications like cavities and gum disease as soon as possible.

Our team recommends that you schedule a routine cleaning and exam every six months. If during these visits we discover issues, we may request more frequent visits to ensure your smile stays healthy. In addition, if there is ever a dental emergency, we ask you not to wait until your regularly scheduled appointment, and contact us as soon as possible. To start scheduling your recurring appointments, we invite you to visit or call us today. We look forward to keeping your smile shining.

Digital X-Rays

Dentists have been using X-rays for years to diagnose problems and create treatment plans. At Beyond Dental Health we use digital X-rays. This technology makes X-rays safer for you, lowers our carbon footprint and makes it easier for us to store and protect your information.

Digital X-rays are one of the advanced diagnostic tools used to provide you with the most advanced care. Digital radiography has changed the way we take dental X-rays. Digital X-rays are faster and more convenient than ever before. Unlike traditional X-rays that use film, digital X-rays use a sensor in order to take images of your teeth. These X-rays use significantly less radiation than conventional film x-rays. Digital x-rays require the use of no chemicals for developing the images. Our dentists can then instantly view the high-quality images on monitors right in the treatment room to provide you with an efficient and accurate diagnosis.

Our team is able to use digital radiography to identify and diagnose several types of dental problems, such as:

  • Decay in between teeth
  • Developmental abnormalities
  • Improper tooth root positioning
  • Cysts and abscesses
  • Fractures in existing fillings
  • Tumors
  • Infection in the tooth nerves
  • Bone loss

Digital dental X-rays are used to plan dental treatments such as:  oral surgery procedures, root canal treatment, dental implants, orthodontics and more. To learn more about digital radiography and how we use x-rays at our office, please call or visit our office soon.

Fluoride Treatments

Naturally found in water, fluoride is a mineral that can strengthen teeth and prevent cavities. While you do get some from the foods you eat and drinks you consume, we may recommend fluoride treatments so that you get the maximum benefit from fluoride.

Fluoride protects teeth from tooth decay while strengthening them as well. As you go throughout your day, your teeth are constantly being bombarded by sugars, bacteria, and acids from the foods and beverages you consume. Fluoride works to harden tooth enamel, helping to prevent tooth decay and cavities, fighting this constant assault. Not only does this mineral fight tooth decay, but it also strengthens teeth as they develop. This makes it something that can be monumentally beneficial for children and young adults that may still have developing teeth.

Our team here at Beyond Dental Health may suggest professional fluoride treatment while your regular cleaning is happening. If your teeth are prone to decay or not receiving sufficient amounts of fluoride from sources like food and drink, we may suggest further fluoride treatment. Fluoride treatment is just one of the many ways to keep your smile healthy for a lifetime. For additional information on preventative procedures, call or visit us today. We cannot wait to start caring for your smile.

Oral cancer is often thought of as a single specific type of cancer, but it is really just a name for a variety of cancers. This subset includes lip, tongue, floor of mouth, throat, sinuses, and hard and soft palate cancers. While if caught early it is often successfully treated, most are not found until the later stages, in which it becomes much more difficult to treat. When found too late, oral cancer can sometimes become life threatening.
